OCPS is the 11th largest district in the nation and the fourth largest in Florida. Student population is 176,236 as of September 15, 2007. We have 23,373 employees. Currently, the number of schools is 175. Six new schools opened in August 2007. Our superintendent is Ronald Blocker appointed in July 2000.
The mission of the Seminole County Public Schools is to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be successful in adult life. Through the individual commitment of all, our students will graduate with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to be successful contributors to our democratic society. Education which inspires all to their highest potential. The school district is the eighth-largest in Florida among the largest 40 nationally. Polk has almost 160 school sites and centers including 65 elementary schools, 19 middle schools and 16 high schools. Also included are charter schools, career centers, adult schools and alternative schools. Nearly 95,000 students are enrolled. The district is the largest employer in Polk County with more than 12,000 employees. About half of those are employed as teachers. The mission of Polk County School Board is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result in high achievement.
